Standing on the dramatic Whin Sill escarpment, Housesteads Roman Fort is Britain's most complete Roman fort, flanked by stretches of Hadrian's Wall. Discover the stories of the fort and its people in an interactive exhibition. Kids will love dressing up in Roman costumes, handling replica Roman objects, and exploring the exhibition and fort with the help of Felix the Roman soldier. Activities include a folktale creature trail and family-friendly exploration of the ruins. The site includes an indoor museum with Roman artefacts, the outdoor fort ruins, and panoramic views of Hadrian's Wall. The fort and museum are an uphill walk from the National Trust car park. Owned by the National Trust and managed by English Heritage. National Trust members get free entry.
