Leazes Park is Newcastle's oldest public park, officially opened in 1873. Nestled behind St James' Park stadium and opposite the Royal Victoria Infirmary, this Grade II listed Victorian park offers a green oasis in the heart of the city. The park features a large boating lake stocked with wildfowl, ducks and swans, meandering tree-lined paths, and plenty of benches for relaxing. A large children's play area is separated into two zones for different ages, located in the woodland to the north. The park also has tennis courts, basketball courts, a sensory garden, picnic and BBQ areas, and The Tower Café (located in the Richardson Road Lodge) serving coffee, snacks, paninis and stone-baked pizzas. Public toilets with baby change and disabled access are available at the café. The park is a Green Flag Award winner for 2026 and has paved paths suitable for prams and wheelchairs.
