Shetland Museum & Archives brings together the islands' heritage in one waterfront building in Lerwick. Explore interactive displays of documents and artefacts covering Shetland's past, from landscapes and traditional crafts to crofting and fishing. The museum runs a separate Crofthouse Museum — a traditional 19th-century thatched crofthouse you can step inside. Current exhibitions feature photography spanning 150 years of island life and contemporary black-and-white work. The museum offers drop-in visits, guided tours, summer family activities and workshops, plus access to Scotland's most extensive photo archive online. There is a gift shop with heritage-themed souvenirs.
