Walk among the stones of one of the most spectacular prehistoric monuments in the British Isles. The Ring of Brodgar is an enormous ceremonial stone circle dating back to the 3rd millennium BC. The massive stone circle originally consisted of 60 stones; 36 survive today, with some reaching 4.7 metres in height. You'll also encounter prehistoric burial mounds and a large rock-cut ditch surrounding the circle. The site sits in a spectacular setting surrounded by hills and lochs, with standing in its centre giving the sense of being in a natural amphitheatre. It forms part of the Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site, and guided walks led by the Historic Scotland Ranger Service cover history, wildlife, folklore and more.
