Facilities

We haven’t checked this venue’s facilities yet. Give them a ring if something specific matters for your visit.

The museum occupies 31 Toad Lane, the warehouse building where the Rochdale Equitable Pioneers Society opened its first co-operative store in 1844. The ground floor recreates that original shop, with its counters, scales and goods on display, so younger visitors can see how a traditional store worked. Upstairs and around the building, exhibitions explain the ideas of the movement, including the influence of Robert Owen, early co-operative advertising and the dividend system that shared profits among members. A learning space is used for school and group visits, and the museum describes itself as a place for school children as well as casual visitors. It suits families with older children who enjoy history and objects, and a visit is short and focused rather than a long day out.
