Poltimore House and Grounds is a historic country house set in about 13 acres of parkland just north of Exeter. The house is Grade II* listed and is currently being restored by a volunteer-led charity after a fire in 2024, so visitors cannot go inside the building. The grounds are the main draw for a family outing: there is a formal lime avenue, shaded paths under large old trees, and a deer park feel with the chance of spotting deer. A volunteer-run café and a farm shop sit alongside the house, and the café welcomes children as well as dogs. Entry to the grounds is free while the café is open, with donations encouraged to support the restoration. It suits a relaxed walk, a picnic-style visit or a half-day with a pot of tea, rather than a busy attraction with fixed activities.
