Tunnels Beaches sits on the western side of Ilfracombe, reached through four tunnels cut by hand into the cliff in the 1820s. The tunnels open onto a few small sheltered coves of sand, shingle and rock, along with a Victorian tidal bathing pool. Older guidebooks describe it as a family attraction with an entry fee, and it is a popular stop for children who enjoy rock pools, paddling and exploring the tunnels. The paths inside the tunnels are paved and generally well maintained, though there are steps and uneven sections around the coves. The site also operates as a private wedding and accommodation venue, and recent visitor reviews mention the tunnels being closed, so families should check the current position with the operator before travelling. Nearby Ilfracombe offers a harbour, an aquarium, a museum and coastal walks.
