What’s there

  • Dogs welcome

Main car park at Bromhey Farm plus a woodland car park in High Halstow. The RSPB facilities page describes the car park as open daily 10am-4pm, with no formal marked spaces and uneven ground.

Only facilities we’ve confirmed are listed — anything missing here we simply haven’t checked, rather than know to be absent.

Northward Hill is a reserve run by the RSPB on the Hoo peninsula, between High Halstow and Cooling, with wide views over the Thames marshes. Families can follow waymarked trails through woodland and open grassland, look for herons and little egrets nesting in the trees, and watch for marsh harriers and other birds over the marshes. The bluebell woods are a highlight in spring, and the reserve also has a cherry orchard and wetland areas. The main trails are unsurfaced and some are steep, so a shorter loop suits buggies and younger walkers best. There is no visitor centre or cafe on site, so families should bring their own food and drink. Dogs are allowed on a lead on the woodland trails and public footpaths. Entry is free and the reserve is open at all times.

Heronry is busiest February to May. Bluebells in spring. Winter brings wildfowl over the marshes. Baby changing was temporarily closed when the RSPB facilities page was read.
