Oare Gunpowder Works Country Park is a former gunpowder manufacturing site now managed as a heritage site and nature reserve by Swale Borough Council. Families can follow the coloured trails through woodland and open glades, past waterways and the old leats, and come across the remains of the powder-mill buildings, which give older children a real sense of industrial history. Surfaced paths are suited to wheelchairs and buggies. The wildlife is a draw in its own right, and the park suits a relaxed family walk rather than a fast-paced attraction. A visitor centre, staffed by volunteers, is open at weekends and bank holidays through the warmer months and covers the history of the works. The park also hosts education sessions and events that schools and groups can book.
