A British Horse Society approved riding school on the edge of the New Forest, set among fields, woodland and stables near New Milton. For families, the most relevant part is the children's programme: a one-hour Kidz Brush n Ride session where young riders groom and tack up their pony before a short lesson or a walk out, and 30-minute lead-rein Pony Trails that go through fields and woodland where deer are often seen. Both are aimed at children aged roughly four to fourteen and are run from spring into autumn, depending on weather and ground conditions. Holiday hacks suit visiting families who want a one-off ride, and there are group and private lessons in the indoor and outdoor arenas for beginners through to more experienced riders. A Pony Club runs weekly sessions, badge rallies and camps for older children who want to keep riding.
Children's riding experiences are available April to October per the venue site.
Questions parents ask
- Do we need to book in advance, or can we turn up on the day?
- Most children's experiences require advance booking via their online system, but you can call to book on the day if you prefer. The Kidz Brush 'n' Ride and Pony Trails run Wednesday to Sunday, so it's worth calling to check availability for your chosen date.
- Which ages is this suitable for?
- The Kidz Brush 'n' Ride and Pony Trails accept children from 4 years up to 14 years old. For riding lessons, the minimum age is also 4 years, with a maximum weight of 14 stone or 90 kilograms.
- How long should we allow for a visit?
- The Pony Trails are a 30 minute ride. The Kidz Brush 'n' Ride is a one hour experience, which includes grooming, saddling and either an arena lesson or a woodland ride depending on weather and ground conditions.
- Does bad weather affect whether we can go?
- Both Pony Trails and the Kidz Brush 'n' Ride are dependent on ground and weather conditions, so sessions may be adapted or cancelled in poor weather. It's worth checking with them on the day if conditions look uncertain.
- When are these activities available?
- Children's riding experiences and forest rides are available from April to October. Kidz Brush 'n' Ride and Pony Trails run Wednesday to Sunday during this period.
