Watatunga is a wildlife reserve on the edge of the village of Watlington, a short drive from King's Lynn in West Norfolk. Its 170 acres of woodland, grassland, wetland and lakes are home to a large collection of deer, antelope, birds and other hoofed animals, many of them rare or endangered. The main way to see it is a pre-booked guided tour: small convoys of self-drive electric buggies follow a guide who narrates the reserve by radio, so children can watch the animals roam from the buggy without a petting-zoo style set-up. Tours are unhurried and suit children who enjoy animals and being outdoors, with the operator noting that very young children may find them hard to keep engaged. Younger visitors are given an I-Spy card to keep them looking out. There is a reception site with accessible toilets, a small takeaway coffee point, a gift shop and picnic benches, and a wheelchair-accessible trailer can be booked on regular tours.
Tour season April to October; safari stays, private tours and experiences run all year.
