Helmshore Mills Textile Museum is a Lancashire County Council museum made up of two historic working mills in the Rossendale Valley: Higher Mill, a wool-fulling mill, and Whitaker Mill, a cotton mill. Visitors can see the fully operational waterwheel and original machinery in action, including carding engines and spinning mules, with a spinning floor where the machines run during demonstrations. The museum divides its collections into a wool story and a cotton story, and it offers family-friendly hands-on interactives. Outdoor areas include a garden of plants used in textile work and views over the River Ogden and the railway cycle path. The council describes the site as suitable for people of all ages, and it runs school sessions for primary and secondary groups. A cafe and gift shop are on site.
