Rutland Water Nature Reserve spans 1000 acres of lagoons and wetlands along 9 miles of shoreline, one of Britain's most important wildfowl sanctuaries. In winter it regularly holds in excess of 25,000 ducks, geese and swans. The reserve is famous for its reintroduced ospreys — in 2001 the first osprey chick fledged in Central England for 150 years. Over 30 bird watching hides and nature trails run from two visitor centres. The Anglian Water Birdwatching Centre has an electric buggy available for hire, and many hides and trails are wheelchair and pushchair friendly. Lyndon Visitor Centre runs March to September; the Anglian Water centre opens year round. Paths are pushchair friendly throughout.
Search for rare spring migrants, admire fishing ospreys in the summer, enjoy the autumn wader passage and marvel at huge flocks of winter wildfowl.
