The Lake is a flooded limestone quarry at Cromhall Quarry in South Gloucestershire, run by South West Maritime Academy. The water is known for being very clear, and the site is used for open water swimming, recreational scuba diving and paddleboarding. Paddleboarding and diving admit children from age 10 when accompanied or as set out by the operator, while swimming is restricted to people aged 16 and over, so the site suits older children, teenagers and adults rather than very young families. Sessions are supervised by a water safety team, and there is a pontoon, a sloping beach entry, changing facilities and toilets on site. A food van and a small shop sell drinks, snacks and swimwear. Glow swims, cold water workshops and a triathlon series are also held here. Families with teenagers who want to try a water sport in a calm, natural setting will find it useful. Booking ahead online is the normal way to visit.
Swimming and paddleboarding peak spring to autumn; the site says it is open to swimmers all year. Check current loop status on the website.
