Housed in a former Victorian sewage pumping station, this small museum tells the story of local transport and industry in the Lea Valley. The main building holds a pair of original Marshall steam engines that are run on Sundays, alongside a collection of smaller engines and pumps. Younger visitors often head straight for the decommissioned Victoria Line Underground carriage, which families enjoy climbing around, and the fire-fighting collection includes a modern fire engine well known from television. A model railway shows the Chingford to Liverpool Street line at different periods, with a Thomas the Tank Engine model sometimes running through it. The museum is entirely volunteer-run and is best suited to a relaxed Sunday visit, with school and group visits arranged in advance. Dogs are welcome in most areas.
