Brent Museum and Archives is the borough's local history museum, run by Brent Council and housed on the upper floor of the library at Willesden Green. The museum side holds more than 10,000 objects, from old toys and household items to oral history recordings and photographs, covering working and domestic life in Brent from about 1850 to the present day. Free temporary exhibitions show newly acquired objects alongside loans from other museums, so there is usually something new to look at on each visit. The archive side has old photographs, postcards, maps, street directories and local newspapers dating back to 1870, which older children studying local history or family trees may find fascinating. Visits are quiet and relaxed, and the venue suits families looking for a free, indoor outing close to Willesden Green tube station.
