Facilities

Tolson Museum is housed in Ravensknowle Hall, a Victorian mansion set in Ravensknowle Park on the edge of Huddersfield. It was founded as a natural history museum and today tells the story of the town, from early settlers and the textile boom through to its industrial and transport past. Families can see historic road vehicles, including a rare three-wheeled car built in the town, and browse displays on the Luddite period, the First World War and the suffragist movement. Collections also cover birds, insects, toys and dolls, which give younger visitors plenty to look at. The park outside has a playground, so a visit can be combined with some fresh air. There is a small gift shop and refreshments on site, and the museum runs school visits and community events. Opening days are limited, so check ahead before travelling.
