Clifton Suspension Bridge spans the Avon Gorge and is one of the best-known landmarks in Bristol. Families can walk or cycle across it and take in the views down to the river and the cliffs. On the Leigh Woods side, the visitor centre explains how the bridge was designed, built and is looked after today, using displays, a short film and archive objects. There is a children's trail and interactive exhibits, and the volunteer guides are happy to answer questions, which suits school projects as well as curious younger visitors. Weekend bridge tours run through the year, and in the warmer months a hard-hat tour takes people down into the vaults beneath the tower. A coffee cart sits near the museum, and the bridge is a striking place to watch hot air balloons during the Bristol balloon festival.

Hard-hat underground vault tours run April to Halloween; the bridge tours run year-round.
