The Scottish Owl Centre keeps a large collection of owls from around the world, housed in outdoor aviaries along avenues inside Polkemmet Country Park. Families can walk the route at their own pace, reading the signs about each species, from the tiny pygmy owl to the huge Siberian eagle owl. The highlight for many children is the flying display, where keepers bring owls out to fly close over the audience, and there are also sessions where visitors can hold a bird for a photo. The centre has a café, a gift shop and a picnic area, and the wider park has an adventure playground and woodland walks, so a visit easily fills a half day. Paths can be muddy in wet weather, so sensible footwear and a waterproof jacket are worth bringing. Entry to the owl centre includes the rest of the park for the day.
