The Bennie Museum is a small community museum on Mansefield Street in Bathgate, housed in two restored weaver's cottages. Its displays cover the life and heritage of the town, from local glassworks bottles and old clocks to a petrol pump unearthed during the building work. Exhibits change through the year, with special displays on subjects as varied as toys and the town's annual Newlands Day Procession. Admission is free, so it works well as a low-cost outing or a rainy-afternoon visit for children curious about how their town used to be. The museum is run by volunteers and welcomes school groups, and special openings can be arranged for parties booked in advance. Visits are usually short, so it pairs easily with a walk around Bathgate town centre.
