A Victorian park on the edge of Churchtown, run with Sefton Council and a volunteer community association. Families come for the walks around the lake and paths, the aviary with its birds, and the fernery, which stays open all year. There is a children's play area and an outdoor gym for older visitors, plus a café and a garden nursery shop selling plants. The gardens hold a Green Flag award and host events through the year, and dogs are welcome on leads. Because most of the site is open grass and paths, it suits a relaxed outdoor afternoon with pushchairs or a picnic rather than a busy indoor attraction. The former museum building closed in 2011, so today the day out is about the gardens themselves.
