A small, independent, volunteer-run museum in an old Cotswold stone building off Witney's High Street, telling the story of the town and its surrounding villages over many centuries. Displays cover the local wool and blanket trade, brewing, glove making and engineering, along with finds from the nearby medieval Bishop's Palace and items linked to Minster Lovell. A reconstructed Victorian schoolroom, with old slates, school books and photographs, gives children a hands-on sense of how earlier generations learned. The museum is compact, so a visit suits a short outing or a wet afternoon, and it pairs well with a stroll around the town centre. The volunteers are known for being friendly and happy to answer questions. Schools can book visits and object handling sessions, so the collection also fits into local history lessons.
Closed for winter; reopening stated as end of March 2027 on the museum homepage.
