A tiny village museum housed in the surviving 14th-century chancel of Churchill's old parish church, overlooking the site of the medieval village that was lost after a fire in 1684. Inside, touchscreen displays and digital panels tell the story of the village from 1600 onwards, with particular focus on the two eminent figures born there: Warren Hastings, the first Governor General of India, and the geologist William Smith, who produced an early geological map of the country. The centre also covers the squire James Langston. Children are catered for with touchscreens aimed at younger visitors and quizzes to work through during the visit. Because the building is small, numbers are limited at one time, so families are best off checking ahead. The setting in a hillside cemetery makes it a quiet, peaceful stop that suits a short visit, particularly alongside a walk around the village.
