Faringdon Museum sits inside the town's Information Centre in the Pump House on Market Place, so it is an easy stop during a visit to the town centre. The museum has a permanent display that traces the history of Faringdon, with cabinets of local fossils and material on the town's ancient residents, its wartime years and the eccentric Lord Berners, who lived at Faringdon House. A temporary exhibition currently looks at four thousand years of transport and how changing travel shaped the town. Entry is free, and the rooms are small, so a family can see everything in well under an hour. It suits children curious about local history, fossils and how places change over time, and it pairs well with a walk around the market square or a visit to the nearby Folly Tower.
