Longthorpe Tower is a 14th-century three-storey stone tower in Longthorpe, Peterborough - the surviving part of a fortified manor house built around 1290-1300. It is famous for its remarkably complete set of medieval domestic wall paintings (added around 1330), which cover the walls of the first-floor great chamber with scenes including the Wheel of Life, King David and the Nativity. Visitors join pre-booked, one-hour guided tours led by friendly volunteer guides, who bring the stories behind the paintings to life. The tower is cared for by English Heritage and managed locally by Nene Park Trust. Note: access involves narrow doorways and steep medieval stairs; the tower is not accessible to wheelchairs, mobility scooters or pushchairs. Free parking is available about 100m away at St Botolph's Church.
Open 28 March - 1 November 2026, weekends only; closed over winter. Tours bookable via nenepark.org.uk.
