The Suffolk Regiment Museum occupies The Keep at Gibraltar Barracks, Bury St Edmunds, a Grade II listed 'toy fort' armoury built in 1878 and one of only nine surviving 1870s regimental Keeps. Opened in 1935, the museum tells the story of the Suffolk and Cambridgeshire Regiments from 1685 (when King James II ordered the raising of the regiment) through the battle honours of Dettingen, Minden and Gibraltar, the Great War's 23 battalions, and the Second World War, right up to the regiments' continuation today through The Royal Anglian Regiment. Displays include uniforms, medals, badges, drums, brooches and Victoria Crosses, and the ground floor corridor has a virtual tour screen showing the first-floor gallery, which currently has no step-free access. Admission is free with donations welcomed, and the museum depends on visitors to keep its collection open. Open Wed-Fri and the first Sunday of each month, 9.30am-3.30pm, with group visits by prior arrangement. There is a disabled toilet and step-free access to the ground floor displays, and limited visitor parking at the rear of the Keep.

- The ground floor has medals and display cabinets suitable for younger visitors, while a virtual tour is available if the main gallery upstairs (which is not step-free) would be difficult to access with small children.
- Can I bring a buggy round the museum?
- We've not confirmed whether buggies are easily manoeuvred around the displays, so it's worth ringing ahead to check before your visit.
- Is there a café, or should I bring food?
- We've not confirmed a café at the museum, so bringing snacks or a packed lunch would be sensible.
- How long should we allow for a visit?
- The museum is relatively compact, with displays on the ground floor and a main gallery upstairs, so a family visit typically takes 1–2 hours depending on your children's interest in military history.
