Whipsnade Tree Cathedral is a 9.5-acre National Trust garden near Dunstable, planted in the 1930s in the approximate form of a cathedral, with grass avenues for nave, chancel, transepts, chapels and cloisters and walls of different species of trees. Created by Edmond Blyth as an act of 'faith, hope and reconciliation' after the First World War, it was accepted as a gift by the National Trust in 1960. Families can follow the grass avenues through beech, lime, oak, yew and cherry, explore the seasonal chapels and enjoy far-reaching views across the Chilterns. The Icknield Way path passes alongside, and the site remains a peaceful, atmospheric place for a gentle family walk.
