Danish Camp

Danish Camp is a family-run riverside visitor centre and cafe on the banks of the River Great Ouse at Willington, just east of Bedford. Set in a Norwegian-style log cabin on a historic Scheduled Ancient Monument site where Vikings once camped to care for their ships, it offers a tranquil riverside location with fine views over the river.

Families can enjoy freshly cooked breakfasts and lunches, cakes and coffee in the fully licensed cafe, then make a day of it: hire a self-drive 'Little Green Boat' (up to 5 passengers, buoyancy aids provided free) or a bike, walk or cycle the Willington Riverside Walk, or join a trip on the Artful Dodger wide-beam barge along the Great Ouse (April to October, including Sunday afternoon trips and private hire). The site is a short walk from the National Trust Dovecote and Stables at Willington, and hosts family events including open-air BBQs, Viking living history days, live music and seasonal celebrations.

There is a large private car park about 200 metres from the entrance (gates lock 15 minutes after closing) and the main cabin is suitable for wheelchair users, with a disabled toilet and a covered, heated terrace. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a supervising adult. Please note this is primarily a catering establishment: only food and drink purchased on site may be consumed on the premises.
