Two hours free parking at Aspects Newnham Avenue car park (MK41 9LN), then walk via the underpass onto the Embankment.

Embankment Gardens and Russell Park are part of Bedford's popular riverside promenade along the River Great Ouse. Russell Park offers plenty of open recreation space plus a large play area, including the Inclusive Park (opened 2022) - a fully accessible outdoor play space with a wheelchair-accessible roundabout, see-saw and trampoline, welcoming children with SEND and their families. The Sensory Garden nearby provides a calm, sensory-rich environment with coloured pathways, pollinator-friendly planting and bug hotels. There are picnic benches, herbaceous gardens, a community cafe (Kiosk in the Park) and a Changing Places toilet beside the play area. The Embankment Gardens are ideal for river walks and picnics in the heart of the town.
