Cambridge Museum of Technology is an industrial heritage museum housed in the city's original Victorian sewage pumping station (1894), a scheduled monument on the banks of the River Cam. Explore the historic Steam Engine Room with its push-button-operated engines and machinery, discover Cambridge's forgotten industries in the Top Bay, and visit the Pye Building, home of the town's early high-tech companies. Kids can follow museum trails and activity stations packed with puzzles, colouring, smells and feely objects, flush the interactive model of the pumping station (complete with sewage smells!), and watch printing demonstrations on the second and fourth Sundays of each month and on Steam Days. The museum is dog friendly, has an on-site café (Kerb Kollective), a picnic area and baby-changing facilities, and there are no 'don't touch' signs. Children under 16 go free. The museum opens Friday to Sunday 10:30-16:00, with extended opening during school holidays.
Opening additional times over school holidays - please check the website for specific dates. Summer 2026: open Thursday to Sunday until 30 August.
