Birmingham Botanical Gardens is a Grade II* listed 15-acre (6-hectare) botanic garden in Edgbaston, home to over 30,000 plants, four Victorian glasshouses and themed gardens including Alpine, Bog and Fern, Japanese and a Pinetum. Families can let off steam at the adventure playground, follow seasonal family trails (such as the summer Wild Wonders trail and Garden Games), join holiday events like Wild Wednesdays animal handling and the Summertime Garden Family Fun Days, and refuel at the Medicine Bakery café, the Gardens Shop or with a picnic on the lawn. The Gardens are open every day except Christmas Day and Boxing Day with seasonal opening times, and day tickets must be pre-booked online with an arrival time slot. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Each winter the Gardens hosts the Luminate light trail (late November to early January) - a separate evening ticketed event with illuminated installations and festive food.

Seasonal opening hours (see hoursNote). Family programme: summer Wild Wonders trail, Garden Games and Summertime Garden Family Fun Days; Wild Wednesdays animal handling sessions during school holidays; family crafts and guided walks year-round. Each winter the Gardens hosts the Luminate light trail (28 Nov 2026 - 2 Jan 2027, 4:30pm-8pm) - a separate evening ticketed event run with a third-party partner, not included in Gardens membership.
