Shaldon Zoo

Shaldon Zoo, home of Shaldon Wildlife Trust, is a small family-friendly zoo set in an acre of peaceful woodland on the Ness headland above the fishing village of Shaldon in south Devon. The Trust looks after and helps preserve some of the rarest and most endangered animals in the world, with a focus on small primates including golden lion tamarins, red-ruffed lemurs, fat-tailed dwarf lemurs and Madagascan giant jumping rats, alongside meerkats, margay and civets. Over 50 species live at the zoo, many as part of managed international breeding programmes. Families can enjoy keeper talks and daily feeding times - free re-entry on the same day means you can return later for the margay and civet feeds. Bookable extras include Meet the Meerkats and Lemur Liaison encounters, plus Keeper for the Day and Junior Keeper (ages 8-15) experiences. The Trust is a registered charity and member of BIAZA and EAZA. Open daily, 10am-5pm in summer and 10am-4pm in winter; children under 3 go free. Note the site is set on a slope and is not fully accessible - there are steps in the older part of the zoo. Dogs are not allowed.
