The South Wales Aviation Museum (SWAM) is Wales' largest independent undercover aircraft museum, housed in Hangar 872 on the former RAF St Athan base near Barry. Run by volunteers and a registered charity, the museum preserves the past and inspires future generations with heritage military and civilian aircraft, engines and historic artefacts. Families can sit in the pilot seats of exhibits, try the flight simulators and take guided tours with knowledgeable volunteers who bring aviation history to life. A Kids in Museums charter member, SWAM offers interactive exhibits and hands-on activities for visitors of all ages, plus a cafe and memorabilia gift shop where every penny supports the museum. Open at weekends, bank holidays and Wednesdays during school holidays, with free parking on site.
