Cardinham Woods is one of Cornwall's hidden gems - a Forestry England woodland rolling across the valley sides of a beautiful bubbling stream, just 10 minutes outside Bodmin. Discover iconic viewpoints, local wildlife, and a slice of unique Cornish history with the remnants of a former lead mine and an ancient clapper bridge.

There are walking trails for every pace, from the gentle Lady Vale Walk by the stream (an easy-access trail suitable for pushchairs, manual wheelchairs and mobility scooters) to energetic hikes like the Wheal Glynn Walk and the Deviock Trail. The cycle trail is open all year round, with enough features to keep advanced riders entertained while less experienced cyclists build their off-road skills.

Families are well catered for with a play area and themed activity trails including the Gruffalo trail and the Room on the Broom activity trail. The Woods Cafe serves food and drink with indoor and outdoor seating, and there are picnic areas (some under shelter) near the cafe and in the picnic meadow. Dogs are welcome and there's a dog wash on site. All-terrain mobility scooters (Tramper) can be hired from the Ranger's Hut - pre-booking is essential.

Entry to the woods is free; paid car parking applies (ANPR pay-on-foot, card/contactless or RingGo only, no cash).

Campervan stopover at Cardinham Woods: from 16 July to 14 September 2026, stay overnight in the heart of the forest (see Forestry England for details).
