Portrush Coastal Zone is the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) main coastal and marine centre, located at the water's edge in a former Victorian Bath House on Portrush's Bath Road. The centre overlooks the Skerries and Causeway Marine Special Area of Conservation — the first marine protected area in the UK for harbour porpoise. Inside, visitors can explore discovery pools and touch tanks filled with native marine life, interactive displays, hands-on exhibits, and educational activities celebrating Northern Ireland's coastal wildlife, maritime heritage and marine environments. Seabirds, seals, harbour porpoises, bottlenose dolphins and even minke whales can be spotted from the viewing platform. The centre is free to enter and fully accessible, making it a fantastic family-friendly attraction on the Causeway Coast.
Open seven days a week from June to September. Guided tours for school and community groups can be booked by appointment at any time of the year, including winter.
