Glamis Castle has stood as the ancestral seat of the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne since 1372. The castle inspired Shakespeare's Macbeth and was the childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother; her younger daughter Princess Margaret was born here. Visitors tour rooms spanning medieval, Renaissance and Victorian periods, including the medieval Crypt, 17th-century Chapel, Drawing Room and the Queen Mother's Royal Apartments. The castle sits within spectacular gardens featuring Douglas firs and an Italian Garden, with a memorial to Princess Margaret beyond it. The grounds offer guided tours, walks through the gardens, and seasonal events. The Castle Kitchen Restaurant and Pavilion Gift Shop are on site.
Family events include Kids Eat Free days and Summer Family Fun Days. Check website for seasonal opening variations.
