Forvie National Nature Reserve is a 973-hectare national nature reserve owned and managed by NatureScot, located north of Newburgh in Aberdeenshire. The reserve features the Sands of Forvie — the fifth largest sand dune system in Britain and the least disturbed by human activity. Visitors can enjoy two waymarked trails: the 5.5km Dune Trail through dunes to the beach, and the 3.4km Heath Trail starting at the Stevenson Forvie Centre near Collieston. The reserve hosts internationally important tern colonies, a protected seal haul-out site with common and grey seals, eider ducks, and diverse seabird species. Bottlenose dolphins and otters can also be spotted. The Ythan Estuary forms part of the reserve, separating the sands from Balmedie beach.
