Discover this enchanting 2-acre hillside garden which was begun in 1922, using seeds collected by plant hunters. Admire alpine flowers, dog's tooth violet and Himalayan blue poppies in spring. Visiting in summer? The magnolias and the feathery purple Japanese maple are unmissable. Take a deep breath in autumn – the katsura tree produces a delicious burnt sugar scent when its leaves turn. Enjoy some fresh home baking or a light lunch in the tearoom or out on the terrace, with a stunning view of the garden and the rooftops of Perth. This attractive garden, a peaceful haven within walking distance of Perth city centre, was developed by John and Dorothy Renton in the early 1920s after they built their Arts & Crafts-inspired house. It’s set on the side of Kinnoull Hill, overlooking Perth. Today, gardeners and botanists come from across the globe to admire Branklyn’s outstanding plant collection, which includes national collections of Meconopsis and Cassiope, with over 3,500 species of plants.
Open 30 March to 1 November each year. Closed during winter season (November to March).
