The Foundation of Light is Sunderland AFC's official charity, established in 2001 by former chairman Sir Bob Murray CBE. Based at the Beacon of Light in Sunderland, the foundation delivers over 40 programmes supporting more than 20,000 people annually across the North East. Offerings include holiday courses (from £10), evening and weekend football (from £3 per session, ages 1–16), disability programmes, schools programmes, and multi-sport activities. The Beacon of Light facility features 5-a-side and 7-a-side football pitches, badminton, basketball, table tennis, pickleball, walking football, and a coffee shop. Every penny earned at the Beacon is reinvested into the Foundation's community work tackling social isolation, unemployment, food poverty, and poor physical and mental health.

Activities run during school holidays and school term time only.
