Hillside Shire Horse Sanctuary is a rescued-animal sanctuary on the north Norfolk countryside edge of West Runton. Families can wander among shire horses, ponies, donkeys, mules, goats, sheep, pigs, alpacas, cattle, ducks, hens, rabbits and aviary birds, many of them friendly enough to be petted. A farming bygones museum shows carts, wagons and old farm machinery, and there are activity areas where younger children can run about. Visitors can buy refreshments in the cafe and browse the gift shop and a bric-a-brac shop. Dogs on leads are welcome. The site is open-air, so it suits mild days better than wet ones, and it is a good half-day stop for families holidaying on the North Norfolk coast.
Seasonal: open Easter to end October only.
