- Dogs welcome
National Trust page: no National Trust parking on site and no parking at Darrow Wood; access is on foot via the Darrow Farm to Denton footpath.
Only facilities we’ve confirmed are listed — anything missing here we simply haven’t checked, rather than know to be absent.
Darrow Wood is a small, lightly wooded pasture field in the village of Denton in south Norfolk, looked after by the National Trust. Hidden among the clumps of trees are earthworks, including the remains of a motte and bailey castle, one of the few well preserved small castles of its type in the county. Nobody knows for certain who built the earthworks or why, which gives children a bit of a mystery to puzzle over as they wander the field. There are no buildings, displays or play equipment, so it suits families who like an open-air walk and a look at old earthworks rather than a planned attraction. Dogs are welcome under close control because cattle graze the field. There is no car park on the site, so visitors arrive on foot by the footpath from Darrow Farm.
