Facilities

Ebrington Square is a large open public space on the Waterside side of the River Foyle, built on the former army parade ground at Ebrington Barracks and reached on foot across the Peace Bridge from the city centre. Families come to walk the paved paths and grass, look at the river and the historic star fort walls, and see the Mute Meadow art installation beside the water. The square also hosts free daytime family events in the summer, such as community carnivals and Saturday afternoon markets with children's entertainment, alongside larger festivals and evening markets that suit older children and adults. Because it is open to everyone, there is no admission charge for the square itself, but ticketed events held there have their own entry rules. Nearby cafés and restaurants make it easy to combine a visit with lunch. The site is level, which suits pushchairs and wheelchairs.
