Small National Trust car park on Mow Cop High Street, which is the start point of the trail. The trail page does not state a charge.
Only facilities we’ve confirmed are listed — anything missing here we simply haven’t checked, rather than know to be absent.
Mow Cop Castle is a mock ruined folly on a rocky hilltop above the village of Mow Cop, looked after by the National Trust. It was built in the 1750s as a summerhouse designed to look like a medieval fortress, and families can walk up to it and explore the grounds around it. The short trail around the hill takes in the castle, the Old Man o'Mow, a large rock that looks like a seated figure, and a stone marking the Primitive Methodist camp meetings held here. Views stretch across the surrounding countryside. The paths are uneven and there are no toilets nearby, so the outing suits families who are happy with a rough walk and are prepared for that. Well-behaved dogs are welcome along the route.
