Afan Forest Park (Afan Argoed) is a huge forest park in the Afan Valley, just a few miles from the M4 near Port Talbot. It is one of Britain's iconic mountain bike destinations, with graded trails from the easy green Rookie and Skills Park and the gentle Rheilffordd family cycleway along a former railway, up to demanding red runs for experienced riders. There are also waymarked walking trails from the visitor centre and Rhyslyn car park, ranging from a short easy stroll to a strenuous ridgetop hike. At the visitor centre in Cynonville there is an accessible children's adventure play area, the South Wales Miners' Museum, cafes and bike hire, plus toilets, showers and pay-and-display parking. Picnic areas can be found along the trails and at Rhyslyn.
