Virginia Water is a 2-mile-long lake at the southern edge of Windsor Great Park, originally created as a Royal pleasure ground in the 1750s. Tree-lined shores frame views across the water, with two major features within easy reach: the Cascade, a 30ft waterfall completed in 1789, and the Leptis Magna Ruins, a folly built in 1826 from columns and stonework salvaged from an ancient Roman city. A full circuit of the lake is 5.25 miles, though the Cascade and Ruins are a much shorter walk from the Virginia Water Pavilion. Walking, picnicking, dog walking and model aircraft flying are all available in the park.
