Barry Island is a seaside resort and peninsula in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales, forming part of the town of Barry. The main beach, Whitmore Bay, is a sandy Blue Flag beach with a wide promenade perfect for family walks. Above the beach sits Barry Island Pleasure Park, a traditional funfair with rides and arcades for all ages. The area is also popular for water sports including kayaking, paddleboarding and sailing. Barry Island gained fame as the setting for the BBC comedy Gavin & Stacey. The beach benefits from the world's second highest tidal range, making for dramatic seascapes at low tide. Facilities include cafes, ice cream kiosks, arcades, a large car park, public toilets and seasonal lifeguard patrols.
